Privacy By Design, a study

Open Law Lab - Privacy Studies by Aleecia MacDonald

A study from Aleecia McDonald and Lorrie Cranor, from Carnegie Mellon, explaining how people can easily get confused about who is tracking them online, what information is tracked, and how they as the users can control the situation.

Part of the problem is in the Browser Experience.  The interfaces of most browsers lead users to confused their Browsing History with Cookies, because these are lumped together in the interfaces.

If the User Interfaces were clearer — or if they could show the differences in trackers, and what the users should most pay attention to — they could give the user more control in the world of online tracking.
